Reviews from the ethos
A few of the songs from Blueprint have been posted on other web sites through the years, including mp3.com and garageband.com. Here are a few of the comments we've received about this music:
- Thanks
I just felt compelled to let you know that your song, How Many Ways was the best that I've heard in so long. I gave up music a few years ago, not really seeing the point in it. I lost the time for it and really didn't think about picking it back up. That is until I heard this song. I guess it was just the inspiration I needed to remember why I was into music. I especially want to thank Greg because I was on the drums also. That was the most amazing performance that I think I have ever heard. Thanks.
HOT CHOPS, CHECK 'EM OUT!
Nice tight band. Like your work even though the style isn't what I usually listen to. Nice arrangement and great chops! Good luck!
Excellent
What can I say? Excellent. Complex, but very passionate. The best band I've heard yet on [Garageband].
Ya get the whole thing with this one
Very well done. Cool arrangement. Really liked the bass. Guitar was played very well.
Best Instrumental I've Heard On Garageband
Great bass player and drummer. Guitar player doesn't suck either!
Very Nice!
Very nice! Bass, guitars, and drums are very tight. The song puts you in a great mood.
Sweet jazz rock fusion - virtuoso on guitar
I like it. Really a well done fusion tune. These guys are probably a blast to see live and probably have quite a bit of good music in their archives. Cut an album!
Groovy......Excellent Group!
Oh yes..I love the vibe on this thing..You grabbed me right from the start and kept my attention. This is the first 5 I have given out..and deservedly so. Where's the Jazz genre? Excellent musicianship - gave you extra credits. I would buy your cd...a rare statement from me, indeed. Good Luck!
in the pocket
jams ... love to see it live
My first 5
damn ... slick track... totally interesting... VERY reminiscent of 'wired' era Jeff Beck which i almost took a point off for but it's just too damn good. This band kills it all the way through!
Funky!!
The lost track from Jeff Becks 'there and back' album. Freakin' loved it!!!
instrumentalist's dream
very funky bass, good clean guitar work - overall tight sound.
From the Grateful Dead Newsgroup
A review of Blueprint appeared recently on a Grateful Dead newsgroup, rec.music.gdead. Tim Lynch, the author of the review, writes, "[The Rossbach, Thomas & Fabian] debut, entitled Blueprint, released in 1996, is a wonderful piece collection of music. This is mostly scorching electric jazz, featuring Rossbach's agile, inventive--and sometimes heavy on the sustain--electric guitar work. Rossbach shows a lot of influences, but the most important may well be Frank Zappa, Trey Anastasio and John McLaughlin. Drummer Greg Thomas is reminiscent of Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette to some degree, while bassist Joey Fabian makes no bones about the fact that he has been heavily inspired by the Chapman Stick work of Tony Levin (who is perhaps best known for his work with the 1980s' King Crimson).
"One doesn't invoke such names lightly; Rossbach-Thomas-Fabian's Blueprint is a very good CD. They don't break the kind of ground that the innovators who inspired them have, but they certainly cover that ground very, very well on this release. I'd recommend this disc highly to anyone who likes spacey guitar-based jazz."
Tim goes on to review two other CDs on which Chris appears, Hot Trivet's Live at the Edge and D'Amphibians' Natural Selection.
In Print
BAM magazine published a nice little article about Chris in the May 22, 1998 issue.
The Palo Alto Weekly has been kind enough to print a few things about us in the May 23, 1997 and September 26, 1997 issues. Click on the links to read all about us.
Greg got a nice little write-up in Modern Drummer in the December 1997 issue. In addition to a biographical sketch, they said, "Greg's demo tape [which was a sampling from BluePrint] reveals a clean and articulate technique, along with versatility and expressiveness that does justice to his influences."
